What is the Swiss connection?

Gruyere Australia was named after Gruyere in Switzerland because some of the first European settlers in the Yarra Valley were relatives of Victorian Governor Latrobe's wife whose maiden name was de-Castella. "Deek" de-Castella, the famous Australian long distance runner is a descendant of the Swiss Castellas. There is a township called Castella in the Yarra Valley area as well as a village called Gruyere.
